Finding Presence & Purpose Even in Hardship
I'm wondering if you might be in a moment where things have gone a bit differently than you hoped!?
I know I am. 😅
This week I was walking in a grocery store parking lot and a car backed into my leg. Yep, my actual leg.
Lucky for me, I actually caught the car with my hand and slapped the brake light to let the driver know "HEY I'M HERE, I EXIST!!"
When the driver realized what happened he started to panic, apologized profusely, and offered to buy me flowers.
>>>>Just kidding 😂
What happened was that I threw my hands in the air and yelled out: "you just backed into me!!"
He looked right at me, shrugged his shoulders as if I had just told him I couldn't find a good banana, reversed his car, and drove away.
I stood there frozen, like... WTF was that!?
I was lucky it wasn't worse, but I look at things like this symbolically and from a spiritual lens always. I like to think through what I was doing or thinking in a given moment that something strange occurred.
Asking, Did anything need to be interrupted in that moment? Is there part of me that needed to wake up? Did something need to change? What could this represent?
Truthfully, in that moment, I was thinking about several recent disappointments I've experienced. I was caught in a super crappy thought loop, wondering why it went that way and what I could have done differently. TBH, that loop had been running for a couple of days. 😩
The car woke me up. The thought loop stopped quickly. The adrenaline surge had me hyper-focused suddenly on the environment around me. I was tuned back in. ✨✨
So, if something in your life has gone sideways or differently than you hoped, try this right now and maybe the universe won't send you a heartless Prius driver in a grocery store parking lot as your wake-up call 🤞🏻:
1) Take some time to tune back into your immediate circumstances, and notice what's around you NOW: Colors, sights, sounds, smells
2) Ask, new (better, more helpful) questions like "what's the best part of being here?" rather than "why am I here!?" Or, "what's one good thing I imagine coming out of this situation?" rather than "why did it have to go this way?"
3) Gratitude can be overrated, but use it. Write down 3-5 things right now you're grateful for in your life so you can see there is GOOD in the present (even if some things are not feeling so awesome).
If you want to re-invent, make change, create new circumstances in your life, make the world better, have a better love or sex life, improve your finances, make positive political impact, or just be a more loving and generous human, get yourself to a place of presence and openness first as much as you can. ✨💗
Start from a place of love and gratitude for what IS going well, rather than fear, judgement, and insistence that it be some other way. Then, you're growing or changing something from that place.
Even if it feels sideways and not at all what you hoped, there will likely be magic in it somewhere. You will grow from this.
